
In a ceremony held at Oheneseso on February 13 2024, newly appointed Assembly members,government appointees were sworn into office, marking the beginning of a new era in local governance. The event was graced by the District Chief Executive(DCE) and Begoro District Magistrate who emphasized the importance of good governance and citizen engagement.
The newly elected and appointed members have been inaugurated for a four-year tenure, pursuant to Section 3 of the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936), following the successful conduct of district level elections on December 17, 2023. The new Assembly consists of 28 elected members and 13 government appointees, making a total of 41 members.
The DCE urged the newly sworn-in members to prioritize the needs of citizens and work towards advancing local governance. They emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and community engagement in ensuring effective governance.
The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the country’s decentralization process, aimed at bringing governance closer to the people. The newly inaugurated members are expected to work together to develop and implement policies that benefit the local community.
